Pest Control in Perth

Frequently asked questions

We frequently receive a wide variety of questions asking for recommendations, information regarding our procedures, the aftereffects of our treatments and so on. This page serves to answer the questions that we hear most often and to help you know what to expect on our visits and what to do in a pest-related predicament.

Q: I found termites, what should I do?

A: Do not disturb any termite workings, leads (mud trails) or galleries—you might scare them away making it harder for us to assess the issue. Don’t attempt to spray infested areas with any kind household sprays or chemicals as this can cause issues when we come to assess the situation. Contact Perth’s Champion Pest Control and we will book you in with one of our Termite specialists.

Q: I am purchasing a new home and have been advised to have it inspected by Champion Pest Control. What do you recommend?

A: We recommend that you have a Pre-Purchase Timber Pest Inspection carried out in accordance with the Australian Standard AS4349.3 2010. The report provides details on any visual evidence of termite activity, termite workings or damage, borers of seasoned timbers or wood decay (rot) fungi found. Contact us to book in your Timber Pest Inspection today.

Q: Are your pest control methods going to hurt me, my children, pets or unborn child?

A: No, the control agents we use are approved for use in hospitals, child care centres, food manufacturing and preparation areas and for many other sensitive situations. As a precaution, we ask that all homeowners, pregnant women, small children and pets vacate the premises while treatment is being carried out. It is recommended that you wait up to 4 hours before settling back into your home and to keep pets off treated surfaces until they are dry.

Q: What do I need to do prior to pest treatments?

A: Please provide access for us to spray along the room edges. This may require you to remove furniture, clothing articles, magazines or toys away from the room edges and off the ground. Please empty kitchen cupboards, pantries or wardrobes (if included in the treatment area) and all food items from benches or table tops.

Q: I’m planning on having my carpet cleaned. Will this affect pest control treatments?

A: For the best results, we recommend taking advantage of our Pest Control services after carpets have been cleaned or vacuumed.

Q: Will your pest spray stain my carpet?

A: No, the emulsion we spray does not stain or affect colouring or finishes.

Q: What happens if I accidentally touch sprayed areas of my home?

A: Sprayed areas are of some concern while still wet. However, once the chemicals have evaporated, the active constituent adheres to the surfaces and will not contaminate or harm you. If you accidentally get in contact with the surface while it's still wet, wash the area with soap and plenty of water immediately.

Q: Will gels or pastes that are applied to the inside of cupboards contaminate my food?

A: No, your food will not be contaminated. The gels and pastes we use are only applied to areas where insects congregate such as small cracks, crevices or hinges.

Q: Will I see cockroaches, spiders or ants after the treatment?

A: Yes, it's possible that insects may wander in from outside. It is likely that they will have crossed treated areas while entering your house and will die shortly after.

Q: Do I need to wash everything after the treatment?

A: No, there is no need to wash utensils or surfaces once the treatment is carried out.

Q: Will there be a smell after you spray my home?

A: No, our pest control treatments have a low odour. Low odour products are just as effective (if not more so) than many of the old-style products that had odours.
